Meet Our Consultants
We are a small team of quality professionals with over 18 years’ senior management and quality experience in the New Zealand healthcare sector. Our work is led by Director Kat Swain, a fully trained Lead Auditor who completes accreditation audits against Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standards and the Day Rooms and Day Stay Standards. We specialise in healthcare accreditation, clinical governance, quality systems development, and continuous improvement, bringing practical expertise, integrity, and hands-on support to every project.
Kat Swain Director
Accreditation Expert and Healthcare Consultant DipHS,PGCert,PGDipHS.
Kat Swain is a Lead Auditor for DAA Group with specialist expertise in the Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standards, Day Rooms and Day Stay Surgical Standards, and CSSD / Sterilisation Services auditing. She has over 17 years’ experience in the New Zealand healthcare sector, spanning acute and surgical services, health and safety management, quality systems, and clinical governance.
Kat has developed clinical governance frameworks, written comprehensive policies and procedures, and supported healthcare organisations to achieve and maintain accreditation. Her clients include private hospitals, stand-alone clinics, endoscopy services, national private surgical ventures, day room surgical services, and residential aged care facilities. She is also a nurse educator and quality advisor, working closely with clinical and operational teams across New Zealand.
Kat received the Prime Minister’s Individual Award during the COVID-19 pandemic in recognition of her leadership and project work supporting the health sector.
James Cass – Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement consultant
ISO Lead Auditor-CLSSBB, Dip Leading Lean, Dip Elec Eng, Dip Mech Eng.
James Cass is a seasoned Quality and Continuous Improvement Advisor with extensive experience in quality management and assurance within the New Zealand manufacturing sector, supported by a strong foundation in military engineering. He has a background in the Royal Navy, specialising in weapons engineering, bringing a disciplined, systems-focused approach to compliance, risk management, and continuous improvement.
James is highly skilled in LEAN management and operational excellence, with qualifications in 5S, FMEA, SMED, Kaizen, RCA, COPQ, process mapping, 8D, Generative AI and Value Stream Mapping (VSM). He also holds ISO-accredited Lead Auditor qualifications across ISO 9001 (QMS), ISO 14001 (EMS), and ISO 27001 (ISMS).
He specialises in continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and performance optimisation, helping organisations embed sustainable quality systems, strengthen compliance, and achieve measurable operational excellence.
